Chavez on Twitter



Public Works and Housing Minister Diosdado Cabello announced on his Twitter account that he registered the name @chavezcandanga as the official account for President Hugo Chavez on the Twitter social network. "Comrades, @chavezcandanga is already reserved. We will soon have messages from our commander via it," Cabello wrote. The name is a combination of the leader's surname and the word "candanga", an adjective which in Venezuela signifies a person or thing which is very explosive. Last Mon., Cabello reported at a press conference that the government and its sympathizers "would storm" social networks. Some weeks ago, Chavez broached the possibility of becoming "a cyber-activist" in order to defend the government's project. "I could have a computer, a page and I could communicate with millions, not only in Venezuela, but in the world. I'm going to send information that way. It's going to be a bombing," the leader said. Since the publishing of this information, nearly 4,000 have signed on to Chavez's Twitter account in just one day.

El presidente de Venezuela confirmó que ha abierto una cuenta en la red social como parte del contraataque mediático frente a las presuntas campañas en contra de su Gobierno "revolucionario".

"Eso (la cuenta en Twitter) ya empezó a rodar. Tengo un equipo trabajando" en ella, encabezado por el ministro de Obras Públicas y Vivienda, Diosdado Cabello, dijo Chávez.

La cuenta fue creada el martes por la tarde y en pocas horas contaba con más de 8.500 mensajes, aseguró la ministra de Información, Tania Díaz.

Por su parte, el ministro Cabello afirmó que crearon la dirección porque la oposición venezolana "ha asumido que el Twitter y las redes sociales les pertenecen".

"Y ya ha batido récord" de mensajes, afirmó el ministro de Obras Públicas, y resaltó que el gobierno pretende con la cuenta Twitter "quitarles un espacio que ellos creían que era propiedad privada de ellos".

Panasonic: 3D TV



Panasonic has announced its first 3D TV bundle available exclusively at Best Buy stores, featuring a plasma TV and 3D-compatible Blu-ray player. The bundle will cost $2,900 for a 50-inch TC-P50VT20 TV (a $2,500 value by itself) and 3D-compatible DMP-BDT300 Blu-ray player ($400), and also include one pair of 3D glasses (model TY-EW3D10U, $149). The Panasonic bundle and TVs will be "sold exclusively at select Best Buy stores via Magnolia Home Theater," according to Panasonic. The 50-inch model will be followed by 54-, 58-, and 65-inch versions later this year, though pricing has yet to be determined.

If the TC-P50VT20 sounds different from the TC-P50VT25 model that was CNET's Best of CES pick earlier this year, that's because it is--albeit just slightly. The two models are nearly identical: the VT25 has minor external styling differences (different color bezel) and includes an RS232 port and ISF calibration mode not found on the Best Buy version, but it's slightly more expensive.


Panasonic se convirtió en el primer fabricante de electrónica en sacar a la venta un televisor de alta definición 3D, un lanzamiento que se adelanta a sus competidores e inicia la apuesta por esta nueva tecnología. Pronto lo seguirán Sony, Sharp y Toshiba.

Según detalla el diario español 20minutos, la venta de estos innovadores aparatos comenzó en Japón. Pero los primeros pedidos de clientes se registraron incluso el miércoles pasado, dada las expectativas generadas.

El televisor 3D de Panasonic es el primero de plasma y en alta definición que se pone en el mercado mundial. El modelo de 54 pulgadas se vende a 528.000 yenes (4.247 euros), mientras que el de 50 pulgadas tiene un precio de 428.000 yenes (3.443 euros). Los dos incluyen los lentes para ver en tres dimensiones.

Twitter: 105 millones



At the company's first conference for Twitter developers on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Evan Williams said generating revenue was among the key priorities going forward -- a change of tone for a firm that had previously said it focused mainly on improving the user experience.

The comments come a day after Twitter rolled out a new advertising program dubbed "Promoted Tweets," its first attempt to make money from its service and a milestone on the path toward an initial public offering.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said Twitter now has roughly 105 million registered users. According to presentation slides, Twitter drew 180 million monthly unique visitors on its site, suggesting that Twitter may be more popular than previously believed. According to comScore, Twitter had 69.5 million unique visitors to its site in February.

Stone did not cite any specific timeframe for visitors to Twitter, introduced in 2006 and now used by politicians, corporations and others seeking to reach an audience growing several-fold annually.

A number of private companies have created specialized applications allowing Web surfers to access Twitter. Stone's slides showed that 75 percent of traffic for the service occurs outside of the Twitter.com site.

Twitter, which allows users to send short, 140-character text messages, or Tweets, to groups of so-called followers, is one of the Web's most popular social networking services, along with Facebook and LinkedIn.

Apart from growing revenue, Williams cited improvements to Twitter's infrastructure, its ease of use, and its ability to serve up Twitter messages by relevance, instead of simply in chronological order, as other key priorities.

The company provided official data about the usage of its site for the first time.

Privately held Twitter is backed by investors including Benchmark Capital and Spark Capital. Last year, the firm raised $100 million in a new funding round that valued it at $1 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Stone said the San Francisco-based company now has 175 employees, compared with 25 employees at the beginning of 2009.



Los creadores de Twitter informaron que su servicio de mensajes cortos por internet superó los 100 millones de usuarios en todo el mundo en el marco de su primera conferencia para desarrolladores de aplicaciones.

En un evento, denominado Chirp y celebrado en San Francisco, los directivos de la empresa californiana hicieron un repaso de los objetivos a corto y medio plazo de Twitter, que según comentaron alcanzó los 105 millones de usuarios en lo que va de este 2010.

El consejero delegado de la red social, Evan Williams, cofundador de la compañía, aseguró que Twitter genera más de 55 millones de mensajes diarios o "tweets", su web recibe 180 millones de visitas únicas al mes y su servicio iguala en tráfico diario al de Yahoo!

Williams explicó que tras años de desarrollo -Twitter comenzó en marzo de 2006- a partir de ahora la empresa pondrá parte de sus esfuerzos en integrar en la red de mensajes publicidad, que empezó ayer a través del sistema de "tweets promocionados".

Twitter tiene previsto basar su estrategia de crecimiento en una mayor explotación de las posibilidades de su servicio a través de los dispositivos portátiles, algo que aún está empezando.

"Hoy solamente un 37 por ciento de los usuarios entran a Twitter desde su móvil, pero eso debería ser el 100 por ciento", comentó Williams, quien confesó que el 75 por ciento del tráfico de la red social tiene su origen fuera de la web Twitter.com.

El inicio de la conferencia de Twitter, que pondrá su cierre mañana, tuvo lugar el mismo día en el que la Biblioteca del Congreso de EE.UU. anunció la adquisición del archivo con los millones de mensajes producidos en la red social desde su creación.

Promoted Tweets



SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter announced Tuesday that it is introducing advertising by allowing companies to pay to have their messages show up first in searches on its site.

The debut of “Promoted Tweets” comes as Twitter increasingly faces questions about how it can turn its wide usage into profits.

The ads apparently won't bring in much money during the experimental phase of Twitter's commercial push. Virgin America, one of the advertisers that Twitter invited to test the concept, isn't paying for its first burst of promotional messages, according to Porter Gale, the airline's vice president of marketing.

“I would expect that it would turn into a paid model in the future,” Gale told The Associated Press.

Twitter declined to comment when asked whether it's charging the test group of advertisers. Besides Virgin America, Twitter identified Best Buy Co., Sony Pictures and Starbucks Corp. among the other companies using Promoted Tweets.

The ads will be rolled out gradually, with fewer than 10 percent of Twitter's users likely to see them Tuesday. The company says the ads should be appearing in all relevant searches within the next few days.

Twitter has grown quickly in popularity since it started in 2006, with celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Ashton Kutcher “tweeting” messages of 140 characters or less alongside everyday users. About 69 million people worldwide used Twitter.com last month, up from roughly 4 million at the end of 2008, according to comScore Inc.

The site has been slow to capitalize on that success - even though the investors who have backed the site have valued it at $1 billion.

Twitter has been making an undisclosed amount of money by providing Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. with access to messages for their search engines. Many people expected Twitter would eventually introduce advertising.

In a blog post Tuesday, company co-founder Biz Stone said the company took its time “because we wanted to optimize for value before profit.” These tweets are to be “called out” as ads on top of search results on Twitter, much as sponsors can pay for listings atop rankings on search engines such as Google, Microsoft's Bing and Yahoo. That means Twitter users would see the new ads when they search broadly for topics being tweeted about.

However, many users connect with the service not through such searches or even visits to the site. Rather, scores of outside programmers have written mobile and desktop software that can access the feeds of Twitter messages that users get from people they are “following” on the site.

Twitter said it might take the Promoted Tweets service further and make them also show up on those feeds.

Stone said Promoted Tweets will need to resonate with users. If a Promoted Tweet isn't replied to or forwarded by other users, it will disappear.

Esta plataforma de comunicación en 140 caracteres nació en 2006 y cuenta ya con millones de usuarios en todo el mundo, si bien hasta ahora no había encontrado la forma de rentabilizar su éxito a través de publicidad.

El cofundador de Twitter, Biz Stone, presentó a través del blog de la compañía el plan comercial de Twitter que entró en funcionamiento hoy mismo en una primera fase en el que los anuncios solo aparecerán en las búsquedas de contenidos que se hagan en la web de Twitter.

"Develamos un servicio sencillo llamado tweets promocionados. Es algo no convencional y fácil y tiene mucho sentido para Twitter", aseguró Stone.

Ese mensaje-anuncio, al que ya se han apuntado marcas como Best Buy, Red Bull, Sony Pictures and Virgin America, deberá contar con el respaldo de los usuarios para aparecer en las búsquedas que se hagan en Twitter.

"Deben tener resonancia. Eso significa que si los usuarios no interactúan con el tweet promocionado, repitiéndolo, respondiéndolo o clasificándolo entre sus favoritos, desaparecerá", dijo Stone.

Una vez superada la fase de lanzamiento, Twitter tiene previsto dar un paso más e integrar los mensajes publicitarios en las cuentas de los usuarios, que recibirán esas promociones "de una manera que sea útil" para ellos, informó Stone.

Diariamente se distribuyen a través de la red social Twitter más de 50 millones de mensajes de forma gratuita.

iPad Apple's first - day/ el Primer dia de iPad



Apple Inc. said it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S. on the first day the device went on sale Saturday, tempering Wall Street's highflying expectations for the much-hyped multimedia tablet computer.

While Apple didn't provide any iPad forecasts, expectations had been building steadily for blowout sales since Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled the product in late January. Last month, people familiar with the matter said Apple was seeing strong preorders of the iPad that even exceeded initial sales of the company's previous big hit, the iPhone.


Analysts on average had expected first-day iPad sales of 400,000 to 500,000 units. Some analysts, such as Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, had even higher sales projections of 600,000 to 700,000 units. Estimates for global iPad sales this year ranged from 2.5 million by financial-services firm Kaufman Bros. to as high as 7.1 million by research firm iSuppli Corp.



La compañía liderada por Steve Jobs anunció la cifra luego del furor que se produjo en los puntos de venta; en menos de 24 horas ya la hackearon y un grupo examinó sus componentes internos.
